Linguistics is everywhere!
From Crazy Aunt Purl's comment log from the most recent post (emphasis mine):
My husband claims to want to be so full of preservatives that when he dies he won't need embalmed.
Now, I've heard people from Pennsylvania do this thing before (I work with someone originally from PA), but I've never heard it with this particular verb. Need washed? Uh, okay. Need embalmed? Kind of sticks out to my ear. Ah, dialects. We confuse everyone from outside of Michigan by going to the bar. Even when we don't know which bar it's going to be.
On a billboard on I-94: A big numeral 4, and next to it, it says "tickets, hot dogs, Pepsi, $59." So... 4 tickets? Check. 4 hot dogs? Gross, but whatevs. 4 Pepsi? I want to have been a fly on the wall during the board meeting when some ad exec decided that the plural of Pepsi is... Pepsi. Weird.
